5 Great Reasons to Live in Farmington New Mexico
We’ve all heard the phrase “There’s no place like home,” but when it comes to Farmington New Mexico, there really isn’t any home like this. Known for many of its amiable attributes, Farmington boasts a fun town size (a happy medium somewhere between booming Austin and Podunk-ville) ), great attractions, fantastic weather, and a commercial hub for the surrounding areas.
1. Local Waters
Despite being in the desert, forty percent of New Mexico’s water runs through Farmington. The Animas, La Plata, and San Juan Rivers converge and run their way through Farmington carving out destinations for riverside walking – like the eight mile Berg Park loop – and a short drive to world famous fly-fishing. And rest assured, these aren’t your average river trout. The Quality Waters boast an average of 17” fish – but something larger than 20” isn’t out of the ordinary. Congrats! You no longer have to stretch the truth on all your fishing stories.
2. Sunshine
Vitamin D deficient? Or maybe just craving a nice tan? Then Farmington is your place. Not only do you get an average of 293 days of sunshine (a Seattle native’s worst nightmare) but the temperature itself isn’t unbearable. While New Mexico has a reputation for its sweltering summers, Farmington has a much more temperate climate. With summer days averaging in the low 90’s this gives you plenty of time and fair-weather days to enjoy the sun in or out of doors.3. Parks
To go along with the sunny weather Farmington is home to more than fifty-seven parks! And these are not just your run of the mill parks mind you. The City of Farmington takes great pride in the appearance and quality of their outdoor facilities. With sprawling green grass , to newly renovated jungle gyms, to shaded tree areas for picnics, the parks in Farmington offer great places for families, pets, and your outdoor enthusiast.4. The Outdoors
If you’re in the mood for adventure, Farmington is perfectly located within range to a plethora of summer and winter activities. With the new Farmington Lake, locals can achieve the beach bum life for a day, lapping up waves or soaking up the sun while others can water-slide and play to their heart’s content. And if summer swimming isn’t your thing, Farmington is just a mere 90 minutes from the snowy ski slopes of Purgatory. Being in the Four Corners area paves the way for many weekend excursions like Mesa Verde, Lake Powell, and Grand Canyon just to name a few.
5. Food
Now the best for last. If we’re honest, food can make or break a town depending on what it has to offer. While some folks favor big-name mainstream restaurants others seek out the unique, hole in the wall kind of joints. Luckily, Farmington appeases both crowds. Being a hub of commercial shopping Farmington plays host to popular chains that many adore like Chick-fil-A , Chipotle, and Texas Roadhouse. But what’s truly unique (and downright tasty) are the unique and delicious dishes that the local cuisine offers. The Chile Pod infuses Mexican and American dishes that have you wondering why you never thought of that brilliant idea yourself (i.e. green chile smothered chicken strips). And 3Rivers Brewery can have you entertained and well-fed for a city block – truly, because their restaurants take up an entire block with a brewhouse, pizzeria, tap room and game room, every appetite will leave satisfied. And never forget Bernadones, one of the best Italian meals this side of the San Juan.Farmington truly is an idyllic place to live. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, within distance of any activity imaginable, room to play in your own backyard, and delectable food, what more could you ask for? If you don’t already live here, you definitely won’t regret the move. For there really is no place like Farmington to call home.
